Hispanic Alumni & Friends Club

Hello to all,

At our last executive board meeting, we decided to take the next step for our alumni club.  Since an executive board has been established, we now need our committees to go into effect.  As executive board members, we have come to an agreement that there are several of you who we think will be a great candidate to serve in a committee for the club.  What we are asking of you is to let us know if you would be interested and committeed to being a committee chairperson for the club. 

The following are the committees that we need to fill:  

• Membership:  Spearhead the clubs efforts to secure members of the alumni association in cooperation with the alumni office.   Promote membership at all events and meetings.
• Public Relations:  Work closely with local media to obtain adequate and favorable publicity for the university; cooperate with the alumni office to insure that publicity emanating from the club is brought to the attention of the news editors of the newspapers in the area; and be the liaison agency between the university and the local community.
• Events:  Work closely with the alumni office to organize meetings and events including board meetings and social events. Work with the publicity committee to secure the appropriate media coverage for each event.  

You will also be responsible to attend executive board meetings which we will notify you in advance. We would like a response by Monday, December 31, 2008 .  If you do decide to become a chairperson for any of the committees, we would like for you to join us at our next mixer, time and date to be annonuced.  Please reply via email with your name and what committee you are interested in.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email us as well at shsuhispanicalumni@gmail.com.

We hope that everyone takes into consideration what a great asset you would be to the success of the Hispanic Alumni Club!

Volunteer opportunity with the Salvation Army at their Secret Santa Warehouse

When: Saturday, December 13, 2008

Time: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m
Location: 10701 Jones Road  Houston, TX 77065. 

(The warehouse is an old Target building in the Steeplechase shopping center) 

*We will be meeting for lunch after our shift.  Place to be announced later.

help those less fortunate this holiday season.
